How Can I Help?

Five Ways to Get Involved

1. MOST IMPORTANTLY: Come to the public hearings with the Cairo Planning Board! They are on the first Thursday of every month at 7pm.

The location is the Cairo-Durham Elementary School cafeteria, 424 Main Street, Cairo. This ongoing public hearing is an opportunity for the public to state its views and learn what’s happening, and your presence is critical. The people who live and work here have the best knowledge of our environment and its existing conditions. If you can’t come in person (and even if you can), email your questions and concerns to: JHasenkopf@townofcairo.com, planning@townofcairo.com, AND dvollmer@townofcairo.com. Request responses in writing. Please ask for a “positive SEQRA” to protect the residents of Cairo.

2. Stay in the loop!

Sign up below to receive updates. We strongly value privacy and won’t share your email address or name for any reason. Want to get in touch directly? Our email is friendsofroundtop@gmail.com.

3. Spread the word!

Share this website on NextDoor, Facebook, and wherever else you think it will be helpful. Send it to your neighbors. Let’s make sure all residents of Round Top, Purling and Cairo know what’s going on!

4. Demand information and transparency from the Cairo Planning Board!

Demand the Planning Board becomes—and stays—compliant by posting their meeting agendas and minutes in the required timeline. If you have questions, email them and request a response in writing—a phone call won’t be on the record. A full “application record” is now hosted on the Town’s website under the Planning Board page. Please keep in mind that this file is maintained by the developer, NOT by the town. Click Here for a direct link to the application.

As of September 2024, we have formed Friends of Round Top, Inc., a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization. 100% of your donation goes toward funding our legal expenses. Donations are not tax deductible.
